Ballygunner and De La Salle Scout Groups had an enjoyable evening last Tuesday night in Jack Meade's Pub with a Bar-B-Que and then some presentations to leaders past and present. Alice Walsh, Deidre Ryan, Albert Gill and Tony Wallace were presented with a beautiful piece of Waterford Crystal to mark the time they spent within the Ballygunner Group as leaders in the different sections.

The County Commissioner Tom O’Neill presented service medals to Conor O’Sullivan and Chris Home both receiving their 10 years service medals, Brian Fanning for 15 years service and Eamon Doran and Sean Hayes with their 25 year service medals.

The Chief Scout Martin Burbridge who hails from Kildare made the journey to Waterford to present the highest award privileged to any leader in the Scouting Movement. The award is know as the Cuchulann award and the two recipients were Sean Hayes of the Ballygunner Scout Group and David Rogers of the De La Salle Scout Group. In order to receive this award the recipient has to be nominated by a fellow scouter in recognition of the many years of dedication, commitment, selfless effort and most of all a complete understanding of the Scouting organisation as a whole both past and present. In the words of both Sean and Dave “you can only give what you can”, and that says it all.

Well done to both Sean and Dave on this great achievement.
